March 4th, Dusseldorf. In Düsseldorf, the carnival celebrations culminated in the Rose Monday Parade. The organization postponed their parade by two hours pending a ‘wind check’ from the storm Bennet. After 1 pm the parade started as usual, but without horses. The motto this season is ‘Gemeinsam Jeck’ (Together Carnival). More than 30 music ensembles and 5,000 participants join the procession through the city. Elaborately built and decorated floats address cultural and political issues and can be satirical, hilarious and even controversial. The politically themed floats of satirist Jacques Tilly are famous the world over.
