December 8th, Brussels. The ‘gilet jaune’ (‘yellow vest’) wave from France reached the center of Brussels for the second time this month. The protest started at several different points. The situation escalated around the area of European institutions including the offices of the European Commission and the European Parliament, police put up barricades there and both vehicles and pedestrians were denied access. The police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse protesters throwing projectiles. There have been around 400 arrests following checks carried out as a preventive measure, according to the latest police figures.
