On Saturday June 17th, The Dutch city of Utrecht turned pink during the celebration of the first Canal Pride in the city. Utrecht has a firm history in promoting acceptance for and emancipation of lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders. Harbouring more than 70 different LGBT-organisations, Utrecht prides itself on an abundance of pink initiatives undertaken by its citizens. Thousands of people attended the colorful parade, that started at the Catharijnesingel and went all the way through the Ledig Erf area, via Utrecht’s famous Oudegracht to the finish at TivoliVredenburg.
